VOCAL Ottawa: Voices of Canadians about Lyme disease
Saturday May 5th, from 3-6 pm, Ottawa City Hall
Please join us for a Lyme Disease Awareness Event called VOCAL, Voices of Canadians about Lyme Disease. The inaugural event, VOCAL Ottawa 2017, was held June 3rd, 2017 on the grounds of Parliament Hill. Building on the great success of this event, VOCAL is back as VOCAL Ottawa 2018 and it will be held Saturday May 5th, from 3-6 pm, Ottawa City Hall, Main Foyer. The theme of VOCAL Ottawa 2018 is: “Are you and your family concerned about Lyme Disease”, including children and pets.
Lyme Disease numbers in Canada are on the rise exponentially and it is an illness which is both grossly underfunded and under recognized. Our goal is to raise awareness in the general public as to the risks and severity of Lyme Disease, especially to our children and pets, and as well highlight the plight of those currently living with Lyme Disease.
Lyme Disease is an especially serious concern in Ottawa. In 2017 alone, the city was declared an endemic area, the percentage of ticks carry Lyme Disease doubled and the human cases of Lyme Disease more than doubled in number. For the first time ever, the City of Ottawa has proclaimed May 2018 as “Lyme Disease Awareness Month” and the Mayor will be kicking off VOCAL Ottawa 2018 by reading this proclamation!
